About

Travels with my laptop was started by Rachel, a 20-something, itchy-footed web designer from the UK.

In 2008 I decided to leave my full-time job , buy a round-the-world ticket and embark on unknown adventures.  I left the UK and backpacked around Asia with my trusty laptop always by my side. It accompanied me on overnight trains in India, up the Annapurna mountains in Nepal and I nearly dropped it in a river in Laos.

I continued to work on a freelance basis while I was travelling and this blog is all about doing that – earning money while travelling, how to find hostels and cafes with free wifi, how to avoid getting your precious laptop stolen. I started researching about all this before I left on my trip and soon found myself wanting to write about my own experiences – hence Travels with my laptop was born.

At the end of the Asia leg of my journey in early 2009 I ended up in Bali, Indonesia and never left. There’s a whole other set of issues surrounding being an expat and trying to earn a living while you’re living in a foreign country so there’s a lot more to come from this blog.

I hope you’ll share the journey with me and find something useful within these pages. Please feel free to contact me with questions, comments and stories at rach@travelswithmylaptop.com.
