The guy who comes round to me and gets me out of trouble when ever my machines fail- which has been often in the last four years advised me to steer clear of Acer machines-he loves them as they generate a lot of repair work for him. He advised me buy Dell or Hewlett Packard/Compaq as the most reliable machines. This year I have gone through both replacing my desktop and my laptops.
